Atrial Tachycardia

Follow Up Required

Your child participated in a cardiac screening with Who We Play For. An ECG was performed and reviewed by a licensed Cardiologist with specific training on reading ECGs according to the International Criteria.

What are Atrial Tachycardia?

Atrial tachycardia (AT) is a type of abnormal heart rhythm or arrhythmia. It occurs when the electrical signal that controls the heartbeat starts from an unusual location in the upper chambers (atria) and rapidly repeats, causing the atria to beat too quickly. When atrial tachycardia only last for short periods, it's not considered dangerous.

When you have sustained atrial tachycardia or if you're in atrial tachycardia much of the time, it can cause a problem called cardiomyopathy, which can weaken and damage your heart.

In youth and athletes, atrial tachycardia will trigger futher evaluation to evaluate the underlying causes.
