Your child’s ECG came back abnormal.
Take a breath. You are not alone. Below are the 6 ways we are ready to help should you need it.
-
We encourage families to complete the ECG Overread Form so the ECG can be reviewed by board certified pediatric cardiologists, trained on the international criteria for ECG interpretation, who volunteer with Who We Play For.
This applies to students with no cardiac symptoms who have passed their physical but have an abnormal screening ECG. Students with cardiac symptoms should consult their healthcare provider. Students must be within our age range of 10-25 years old to participate. This is a free service.

This service helps ensure that:
Only ECGs that are truly abnormal by the International Criteria are referred for follow-up care
Students with a normal screening ECG are not sent for cardiology visits
Families receive clear, expert guidance on what truly needs follow-up
-
Once the ECG is confirmed to be abnormal to the International Criteria, we will help support you to find a timely pediatric or adult cardiologist (when age appropriate). The goal is be seen within 10 business days of the abnormal ECG
If you are having trouble:
Finding a pediatric cardiologist or adult cardiologist (when age appropriate).
Getting an appointment quickly
Navigating referral requirements
Please reach out. We are ready to help you navigate this process and explore available options.
-
If you are struggling to afford follow-up care or a medical bill is creating financial stress for your family, please let us know. While resources are limited, support options do exist, and we will do everything we can to help you navigate them.
-
If you would like another perspective on your child’s diagnosis or guidance around return-to-play decisions after being confirmed with a heart condition, we can help connect you with appropriate support. The majority of students flagged with heart conditions are able to return to play, even when a heart condition is identified. We will help connect you with the leaders in the world of cardiology in return to play after diagnosis.
-
If you are seeking support from others who have walked this road, families living with a new diagnosis or grieving a loved one lost to sudden cardiac arrest, we would be honored to help support you and to also connect you through a sister nonprofit- Parent Heart Watch.
